YouthSchool is a charity established in Scotland with the aim of creating a personal development and training programme that will support young people in developing countries to access meaningful employment and make a positive contribution to their community.
Our charitable aims and objectives are influenced by the UN Millennium Development Goals, and in particular MDG-8 which states: In cooperation with developing countries, develop and implement strategies for decent and productive work for youth. The UN MDG Report 2007, states that in all regions, economies have failed to provide full employment for their young people.
The UN report states, both developed and developing economies are failing to provide job opportunities at a fast enough pace to fully employ their young people. Since 1996, the number of jobless youth has grown from 74 million to 86 million in 2006. This represents almost half of the 195 million jobless people in the world. Young people tend to have more difficulty finding work than adults and, in many countries; they are more than three times as likely to be without jobs. In 2006, youth unemployment stood at 13.6 per cent, compared to the adult unemployment rate of 4.4 per cent.
In response to the above criticism by the UN report, YouthSchool has developed a fresh and exciting approach to help young people in developing countries to setup their own business. Key to the success of our model will be the provision of finance, training and business support.
